Film Maker Journalist

Adam Curtis is a journalist who makes his own documentaries. This ensures more exposure and control over his output, and his work has a definite style and subject theme. He narrates his own work and many will recognize his voice, but he does not appear in person, or interview others. His documentaries link together title screens, sound clips, news clips, and archive footage to illustrate his narration, the effect of which is to focus the viewer on what is being said.
His tone is matter-of-fact and he makes points using statements and questions that are journalistic rather than sensationalized. The sometimes complex subjects tackle politics, society, psychology and the effects the power of any commercial or political system has on society in terms of control, both now and historically, including incredulous behaviour and the sometimes comedic tragedy of it all.
Curtis's writing and presenting style allows for a considered exploration of theories and conspiracies that might well seem unbelievable or devalued in the hands of a more dramatised or dumbed-down style. His work often opens up a thought process, and a starting point for further research or debate if anyone is so inclined.
The majority of his work has been produced for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). There are no social media accounts or official websites, apart from a BBC blog. He occasionally gives talks and interviews, and has obvious passion about the subjects he presents. However, unlike many other documentary makers, he seems to prefer to be behind the scenes as a producer, rather than in front of the camera - although the addition of his own distinctive voice and narration style does ensure the subtle emphases and questioning tones are retained and used to full effect.
